MATTY Lund returns to his old club Rochdale tomorrow eager to prove that City have genuinely turned a corner.

The attacking midfielder is pressing for more involvement after making a scoring cameo from the bench in the midweek win over Portsmouth.

It was the on-loan Burton man’s third goal of the season – and first since the end of October after a frustrating run with injury.

Lund is now looking to finish an up-and-down campaign strongly for both himself and the Bantams.

He said: “Since I have been here, it has been stop-start. We have not had the performances but the last two games have shown what we are all really about.

“On a personal level, it was good to get out there again after my hamstring injury and I am just glad that the team got the three points.

“I like to make late runs and luckily, I managed to get through to a ball. It had been a while and I have had a few injuries since my last goal.

“It was good to get back out there and get a goal and hopefully, we can go into Saturday with a bit more confidence now.

"I would love to play, like all the other lads. But the lads were fantastic who started the game and the manager has got to pick a team and hopefully I am in that 11.

“That's his choice. But this is a big game for us and Rochdale.”

The Northern Ireland international played 130 games in four years at Spotland – and scored ten goals last season before leaving to join Burton.

Keith Hill’s side are scrapping for their League One lives in the bottom four and Lund knows how exactly how demanding an afternoon it is likely to be for the Bantams.

He added: "I know that it will be no easy game because I have been there for a few years. I know what it is like and it is a tough place to play.

“They will work hard and be up for the fight as it is a huge game for them. But it is a massive game for us as well and it is going to be an exciting one.

"We have got to show the fight that we have in the last two games. If we don't do that, then we will get beaten.

“If we show that fight tomorrow, I know we can play our football at the right times and score goals.”

City’s 3-1 victory on Tuesday was only their second since Lund arrived at the club in the January transfer window.

But following on from the draw with Shrewsbury, he believes they are on the way back after hitting rock bottom in the dismal defeat at Blackpool.

He added: "I was not involved but after that game the lads who have come in have really showed their work ethic and turned things around.

“We have got to keep showing it. Our next away game is Rochdale and we have got to show the away support - and there will be a few of them there - that we have really turned the corner.

"It is good we had two home games after Blackpool as it gave us a real intent to go and get the points we have. Hopefull we can show the fans again.

“They were brilliant (on Tuesday) as they have been every time since I’ve been here. It was good that they were behind us from the first whistle.”

Simon Grayson has gone “back to basics” with City since the Blackpool embarrassment and the four points since then have maintained their outside interest in a top-six finish.

Lund said: “When you are not picking up results, you have got to work hard and win your tackles and headers. You have to work hard, because if you don't, you won't pick up results as a team.

"Because it is late in the season, you have got to take it a game at a time. Fans get excited and say 'the play-offs' or whatever.

“But we have just got to win tomorrow and get the points really.”
