ALEX Gilliead insists City are not at a disadvantage playing after the rest of the play-off pack.

The Bantams watched the gap to the top six grow to seven points ahead of tonight’s televised Yorkshire derby at Doncaster.

Peterborough, Charlton and Scunthorpe all dropped points at the weekend. But Plymouth’s late win against Bristol Rovers saw them regain the final play-off berth.

Eleventh-placed City have two games in hand and Gilliead’s focus will not be swayed by what has been going on elsewhere.

He said: “For me personally, I’m not a big fan of looking at the league table. Everyone gets to where they should be come the end of the season.

“With everyone playing over the weekend, you might see the goals and results but we can’t affect any of that. Our focus is just on what we can do as a team.

“There were a few games on Tuesday night and we played the next day. Charlton and Peterborough both played before us but I hadn’t even seen those scores until I looked after our game.

“It’s not something I’m big into. You deserve to be where you are at the end.

“I don’t think there’s any more pressure. We can only look at the Doncaster game where we need to pick up three points.

“We’ve got 11 games left and a lot of points to play for. There will be a lot of chopping and changing and we’ve got to make sure we’re putting our best into it.”

Paul Taylor hopes to be back in contention at the Keepmoat after missing the Wigan home loss with a knock. Omari Patrick also continues to make progress.

The latest blast of wintry weather has again affected City’s build-up but Gilliead sees the clash against a Doncaster side who have also won only once in 2018 as a good chance to rediscover their spark.

“Everyone just wants to play games,” added the on-loan winger. “We hadn’t played for two-and-a-half weeks before Wigan so we don’t mind them coming thick and fast now.

“If we can get a win tonight, confidence grows and then you want to keep playing and playing.”

Simon Grayson has looked to make the Bantams more solid after a run of nearly four months without a clean sheet. But Tyrell Robinson’s equaliser at Charlton remains their only goal in his three games in charge.

Gilliead said: “We just need to get that first goal, an early goal so you’ve got something to build on. If we can just get that bit of magic from someone or a bit of luck.

“We’re all trying. It’s not as if we’re saying that we’re only going to defend and try to get 0-0s.

“Early on in the season we had a lot of goals from crosses and set-plays. We’ve got to get back to being aggressive and winning headers, keeping the ball alive in the box.

“You create your own luck and things seem to fall for you.

“We still believe in each other. If you went back ten games, everyone would have been saying what a good team we are.

“Obviously since the turn of the year, we haven’t done very well but we’re focused on turning that round.”

Assistant manager Glynn Snodin believes there is still a positive feel around the squad as they look to end a winless run stretching back to New Year’s Day.

He said: “These lads have proved they can be on a run and they can go again.

“The gaffer believes they can do it and he’s telling them. He wouldn’t be saying that for no reason because he’s got four promotions.

“They can see he knows what he is talking about.”
