MATT Kilgallon revealed that a positive approach from Stuart McCall (pictured) makes it easier to bounce back from defeats.

The Bantams have yet to suffer back-to-back league losses in the City manager’s second spell at the helm.

Their 2-1 win at second-placed Wigan was the perfect response to the disappointment of losing at home to bottom club Plymouth and restored confidence ahead of another crunch clash with Scunthorpe tonight.

And Kilgallon believes McCall’s refusal to dwell on negatives aids City’s resilience.

He said: “I can understand the fans being frustrated but the lads weren’t down (after the Plymouth defeat).

“We know how good we can be if we’re right at it. There was none of that ‘oh no, we’ve blown it now’. Yes, we’ve lost a game but we came straight back and won the next one.

“The gaffer didn’t come in and make us watch two hours of our performance. I’ve had those managers in the past and you’re sat there every minute thinking ‘are we that bad?’.

“But he draws a line under it straight away. He’ll give us a telling-off in the changing room but then it’s gone and you’re on to training for the next game – and it works.”

Kilgallon is pleased at how City have improved their win ratio compared with last season, with ten victories and just three draws making up their points tally.

He said: “Last season we were on a good run but there were a lot of draws. We could have drawn against Plymouth and Wigan rather than win and lose – but we’ve got more points.

“If we could follow it up with a home win, six points would be brilliant to take into the Shrewsbury game at the weekend.

“We can’t get carried away now but beating Wigan was a great way to start this week.

“What a feeling it was walking over to the fans after the game. It gave me goose bumps. It sets up the Scunthorpe game brilliantly.”

Kilgallon is looking forward to locking horns with the man he has replaced at the heart of City’s defence this season in Rory McArdle.

He said: “He’s a great lad and I got on well with Rory. He’s a good professional and it looks like he’s enjoying it there. It will be nice to see him but we’ll have to watch him at corners – I think we’ll have to put four men at the near post!”
