COLIN Doyle aims to keep flying high for club and country.

The big Irishman is targeting a City win at Bury today to round off a week he won't forget in a hurry.

Having jetted back from international duty to play his part in the 4-1 victory over MK Dons, Doyle returned to the Republic of Ireland ranks to see them qualify for next month's World Cup play-offs.

The Bantams stopper was on the bench in Cardiff as Martin O'Neill's side stunned Wales – but he has no issue with playing a back-up role if it means a potential ticket to Russia next summer.

Doyle said: "I am not disrespecting it but I am in League One and Rob Elliot is playing in the Premier League and Darren Randolph is in the Championship.

"So I am not going there expecting to play. It is an honour to be selected by your country as they pick three keepers and you are part of that group.

"If we can do the job in the play-offs, then we are going to a World Cup in the summer and, touch wood, I am injury-free and I have a chance of being selected for that.

"It is what you want. Because I am third choice, I am not going to phone up and say I don't want to go.

"I am really happy that I am involved and those days you remember for the rest of your life as it was a big win for our country and nice to get into the play-offs."

Doyle enjoyed the post-match celebrations but his focus quickly switched back to City's storming start to the League One campaign.

His preparations for Gigg Lane today were far more relaxed than the last outing when he joined up with his team-mates less than four hours before kick-off in Milton Keynes.

"I think I have done enough flying to last me a year now – but I wanted to play the game," he said.

"There was a lack of sleep as I probably didn't get in from the (Ireland) game until about 1.30am and the alarm went off at 5.30 to get the flight to England.

"I had a little power-nap from Gatwick to MK, which was nice. I freshened up in the hotel and we got the three points, which was obviously pleasing.

"They probably had a five-minute spell where I made three saves but other than that, I didn't have a lot to do.

"You like to have quiet games but if you make saves, you get confidence from it and I was happy to do my part.

"I think I only actually kicked the ball about twice and it was nice to play it out. It was a good win as sometimes it is hard to beat ten men.

"I texted the gaffer after the Ireland game on Monday and said 'I will fly in on Saturday for Bury' – he sent a few little smiley faces back!"

Doyle has returned to earth as the Republic wait to hear their play-off fate on Tuesday when the draw is made. But he felt privileged to be part of the drama that has got them this far.

"The celebrations with the fans afterwards and the players in the changing room are something you will never forget," he said.

"If we get these three points as well, it will be nice to top off a big ten days for me."
