THE smile has not wavered from the face of Romain Vincelot.

City's skipper could have had more reason than most to have left Valley Parade scowling after Tuesday's shock to the system.

It was Vincelot's uncharacteristic error that led to Fleetwood's opening goal just at a time when the home side looking to be taking a grip on things.

The Frenchman later also scorned City's best chance of getting back into the game – booting a post in frustration after keeper Alex Cairns had turned his close-range effort behind.

Yet Vincelot will not allow one bad night at the office to dampen his enthusiasm over the encouraging start to the season.

He said: "There are going to be bumps in the road. As we always say, you must never get too high with success or too low with failure. We know where we want to be.

"I think we have a good group of men and we'll keep the smile on our faces. We are still in a very good position.

"Our pride got hurt on Tuesday but it's been a very good start. We are still confident but I am sure we'll keep the right balance and play with plenty of humility as well."

City have the chance to clamber straight back on the horse tomorrow with another Valley Parade visit from Doncaster, their Carabao Cup conquerors last month.

There is another score that needs settling for Vincelot, whose red card that night proved to be the pivotal moment.

Midweek defeat ended a six-game unbeaten run which had powered the Bantams into the mix at the top of League One – but Vincelot does not fear any after-effects holding them back in the Rovers rematch.

He said: "It's just the way football is sometimes. I don't think the result really reflected the performance.

"Fleetwood did what they came here to do. They sat deep and it was hard for us to break them down.

"It became even harder after we went behind because it suited them perfectly to play on the counter. But we kept going with a lot of pressure second half.

"We conceded a goal from a bad pass by me and they pounced on it and scored. We had so much possession and were putting pressure on them. But then a little moment of sloppiness and we paid the price.

"I don't think there was anything wrong with our mind-set. Everybody was working hard and willing each other to get another good result. We fought hard and didn't lack any work ethic.

"Sometimes you can get that (overconfidence) if you are winning plenty of games. But we never stopped trying. It was just one of those games that didn't fall our way.

"Even at 2-0 down, I had a big chance and the keeper saved it with his foot. A goal then would have created real momentum."

After going all season unbeaten at Valley Parade, City have lost twice at home already – as well as their cup exit. But Vincelot is ready to bounce straight back in front of another expectant crowd.

He said: "The good thing is that we don't have to wait long for another game. We will be ready to go again and it's a good game to come back with.

"We want to put it right in front of the fans. They were very good on Tuesday – they saw that we were trying and probably not getting what we deserved.

"We never gave up and that's a mentality we have to take into the Doncaster game."
