CITY skipper Romain Vincelot has agreed a new deal to extend his stay at Valley Parade.

The 31-year-old, who had a year left on his contract, has signed new terms to keep him at the Bantams until the end of the 2018-19 season.

The experienced Frenchman played a key role in his first campaign with City, playing at centre half for the first half of the season before reverting to his traditional midfield role after Christmas.

Scunthorpe were understood to be keeping tabs on him but the player has been in talks with City over the past few weeks and was also keen to stay.

Bantams boss Stuart McCall said: "It is always a bonus to keep hold of your captain for another added year.

"He brings a lot of leadership qualities and experience.

"He is a great personality to have in and around the dressing room - it was definitely a good decision to make him captain when he came to the football club last year.

"He has done exactly what we thought he would do when we brought him to the club, and it also helps that he can play in more than one position for us.

"A player of his quality is always admired by a lot of other clubs, so it was important that we signed him up for another year (on top of this coming season)."
