GORDON Greer has impressed Stuart McCall with his willingness to join City in their Austrian training camp.

The 36-year-old centre half is spending the week with the Bantams in Kleinwalsertal.

Free agent Greer is looking for a new club after being released by Blackburn following their relegation to League One.

McCall is in the market for an experienced right-sided central defender and sees the next few days as a good opportunity for the big Scot and City to have a good look at each other.

The fact that Greer was willing to fly out with the squad from Manchester on Monday went down well with the Bantams chief.

"There were a few people who were under consideration but Gordon was the one that said 'yeah, I'd like to come away with you'," said McCall.

"There were a couple in the frame who didn't want to come but he was buzzing about it. That made it a no-brainer for us.

"It's not a trial as such and there are no guarantees either way. We'll have to see if we like him and he likes us."

Greer, who is a week younger than John Terry, played over 200 games for Brighton and skippered them to promotion from the third tier in 2011.

McCall knows him well from the Scotland international set-up, where the Glaswegian won 11 caps.

"It's only just over a year ago he played for Scotland against France pre-Euros. I know that because I was with that squad," said McCall.

"I like the fact that he's backing himself after agreeing to come with us. You look at Mike Williamson, who is away with Oxford, and Michael Turner from Hull, who went away with Southend.

"I remember taking Rammers (Simon Ramsden) from Bradford when we were away with Motherwell. We ended up signing him on the strength of that.

"Gordon knows Romain Vincelot and Adam Chicksen from Brighton and he's a really good professional. It's a good chance to have a look – but as I say, nothing is guaranteed.

"We might like him but he might have a better offer when he gets back. He's come over here with us to take part and we'll see how we go."

The 22-man squad, made up of 20 outfield players plus keepers Colin Doyle and Rouven Sattelmaier, did two lengthy sessions yesterday at their skiing resort base.

A morning football and gym programme was followed later in the day with more ball work and running.
