JAKE Reeves is relishing being set free by his move to City.

The all-action midfielder believes Stuart McCall's more fluid playing approach will bring out the best in his game.

Reeves played every minute of last season for Wimbledon in a deeper position. But McCall likes his side to get forward and express themselves – something the 24-year-old can't wait to be part of.

Reeves said: "The gaffer here doesn't mind players moving around and being fluid. If you end up somewhere else on the pitch, somebody will sit in for you.

"When I was at Wimbledon, I pretty much played a specific role. It was more structured in our attacking play.

"I just backed it up. I was behind the ball, got it, passed it out wide to the wingers for them to try and cross.

"That was the style of play Wimbledon had. There's no right or wrong; it's down to different opinions, I suppose.

"But I much prefer this and hopefully this can bring my game on a little bit more. A lot more freedom will suit me a bit better.

"As everyone knows, I can run all day. But hopefully I can get forward more into the box and I don't have a problem with that."

Reeves became City's fifth permanent signing of the summer last week in a deal thought to be worth at least £150,000. He has been impressed with how his new club have got their business done so soon.

He said: "It's nice to do it early and get everyone together to try and gel. Normally other clubs don't get most players in until late in pre-season.

"From what I've heard, pretty much everyone I think the gaffer's gone in for he's got anyway.

"Normally if clubs do it too early, you think it's a bit panicky and they are just trying to get numbers in.

"But this club have done it the right way, obviously done their research and how they want to play and the manager's got his main targets."

With the squad almost in shape, Reeves reckons this week's training camp in Austria is the ideal preparation for next month.

He said: "It's massively important for everyone. The first week of pre-season was really hard work but that gave us the base to go abroad for the training camp and kick on again.

"The games come thick and fast in the first month as well and you pick up more fitness there. You get to see the style of play and how we're going to do it for the rest of the season."
