CITY are hoping to take another centre half with them to Austria today.

Stuart McCall has left a spot in the 22-man travelling party for their training camp to run the rule over a right-sided defender.

The Bantams have added six new faces to the squad this summer and are probably only looking at one more to fill the gap left by Rory McArdle's departure.

McCall has not named the player he has in mind but wants to run the rule over them while the club are abroad.

Former Brighton skipper Gordon Greer is one name in the frame, with the 36-year-old a free agent after leaving Blackburn.

McCall said: "We're trying to bring somebody in that we can take away with us. It's just to look at him at this stage but the one I have in mind is an experienced defender.

"From middle to front we've brought some young ones in. But you look at last season's sides that went up and they all had a bit of experience and know-how at the back. We've had a scout about and seen what's available.

"We've got some experience at the back as it is – McMahon, Knight-Percival, Kilgallon, Doyley and Chicksen's played a lot. It's good to have that in the back areas and we're looking to bring in one more."

City gave a trial to former Manchester City left back Ellis Plummer in the first half of Saturday's friendly at Bradford Park Avenue but he has not been kept on.

Ellis Hudson and Tyrell Robinson, who also both played the opening 45 minutes, are not flying out with the rest this morning. Instead, they will stay behind and play in a development friendly against Sheffield Wednesday later this week.

Paul Taylor and Alex Gilliead had an extra training session on Saturday morning to get up to speed and did not feature in the 3-0 defeat at Horsfall Stadium.

McCall said: "They needed to do a bit more leg work because they missed a couple of days last week. Obviously Gilly came in late and Tayls had that bout of food poisoning. But they are with us in the squad we're taking to Austria.

"This week will be great, not just for the new lads but for all of us to get on the training ground twice a day and start implementing things I'll be looking for in the season.

"I'm looking forward to getting away. It's always been beneficial to me as a player and as a manager and coach.

"You get to know the players inside out and you can also start putting down ideas and structures. We've not done any big-sided games in training yet."

McCall was not too concerned at losing against their National League north neighbours. He switched the City side completely at half-time.

The Bantams boss said: "The game came a little bit early for us. We'd not really done anything and threw two teams together.

"We just wanted the lads to get 45 minutes in their legs and go get a touch of the ball. They've had a little look at it and now we can go away and work closely on things.

"But it was great for Park Avenue to see over 2,000 there and I'm pleased for Bowser (Mark Bower)."
