WAYNE Jacobs has urged people to get behind Bradford City Women, who he believes have a huge part to play in the regeneration of the district.

Jacobs has supported the club for several years and will complete a sponsored skydive for them next month.

He believes the club has the potential to play at the highest level but not without financial support.

“We need the women’s team to be in the Women’s Super League to inspire the young girls of our district who love the game,” Jacobs said.

“They have to know that they can live here and achieve that.

“The girls and the public should be able to watch and play top-flight football in our city.

“For me sport has such an important part to play in the regeneration and wellbeing of our district and women’s football has a huge part to play in that.”

Since winning promotion to the FA Women’s Premier League in 2013, City have established themselves in the division while building their junior section.

The last four years have seen two girls’ teams become eight, four of which reached cup finals this season.

“Without doubt we have the potential to reach our goal,” Jacobs said, given confidence by this progress.

“We have to keep looking at the quality of our coaches and the development of our infrastructure. However, the next and most important step is a financial one,” he admitted.

“We need a sponsor who is a visionary, who is passionate about our city and who wants to invest in the future of girls and women.

“If they are passionate about football, great. However, right now, I believe this is bigger than football.”

Jacobs’ skydive is an opportunity for anyone to help the club though, not just big investors.

Donations of any size can be made online towards the former City defender’s efforts to help the women’s team.

“I want to support the establishing of a flourishing girls’ section in support of the whole club,” he said.

“It is exciting times for women’s football, and Bradford City want to be right in the middle of all the good that is happening – and we should be.

“We should put that expectation on ourselves as a district.

“Please support Bradford City Women’s and Girls’ Football Club.

“Give as little or as much as you possibly can, and thank you in advance for your kind support.”
