TONY McMahon today suggested that he would like to stay at Valley Parade – but admits the deal “must be right”.

The experienced defender is one of the out-of-contract players that City are hoping to keep next season.

They have already lost James Meredith to Championship new boys Millwall and Bantams fans are concerned at the possibility of others following suit.

McMahon, Rory McArdle, Mark Marshall, Matt Kilgallon and Rouven Sattelmaier are all currently considering new offers.

Right back McMahon is due to jet off on holiday later this week as discussions continue on his future.

He told the T&A: “It’s not set in stone what’s going to happen. Talks are ongoing with the club and my agent – they are speaking all the time trying to get something sorted and I’m leaving it up to them.

“I’ve worked my socks off the last ten months and it ended in disaster with losing the (play-off) final at Wembley. That was really hard to take.

“I’m going away with the family and hopefully something will be done by the time I come back.”

Phil Parkinson’s Bolton are also maintaining an interest in McMahon, who has played 88 times for City since the former boss took him to Valley Parade in March 2015.

McMahon’s character and fighting attitude has earned him a regular spot in the team under Parkinson and Stuart McCall.

He missed three and a half months of last season after tearing a thigh muscle against Coventry in August.

But he regained the starting shirt from Stephen Darby at the turn of the year and missed only two league games from that point. He finished with 31 outings and six goals.

McMahon added: “It’s a great club and I’m enjoying myself here. But the deal needs to be right.

“I’m 31 now and I’ve got a wife and two kids so I’ve got to look out for them. I’d gladly stay but I’ve got to feel that the deal is the best for me and my family.”
