Bradford City 0 Millwall 1

CITY'S Championship dream was ended by Millwall at Wembley this afternoon as Steve Morison struck a late winner to break Bantam hearts.

Morison struck with five minutes left to settle a tense occasion – and condemn the Bantams to a fifth season in League One.

Millwall made the early running, forcing a flurry of corners, but it was City who had the best chance after 13 minutes.

Mark Marshall sent Billy Clarke clear with a peach of a pass but Jordan Archer kept the shot out with a fine one-handed save.

James Meredith had a shot beaten away by the keeper as the Bantams grew in confidence.

They saw plenty of the ball in the first half and dealt well with Millwall’s obvious physical threat from set-pieces.

McCall had stuck with the same side that saw off Fleetwood 13 days earlier – but switched to three centre halves with Romain Vincelot dropping back to help counter the aerial menace of Steve Morison.

The second half began in scrappy fashion as Meredith saw another effort blocked in a scrum of players and Morison dragged a long shot well wide.

Both sets of supporters joined in with applause in the 56th minute to remember the fire victims before Rory McArdle headed over from close range.

Millwall responded with their first decent opportunity as Jed Wallace slid an angled shot past the far post.

But the second half was a lot more even as you sensed one goal would settle it.

And City’s hopes were destroyed in the 87th minute as Shaun Williams’ cross was flicked on by Lee Gregory and Morison, inevitably, was there to stab in on the volley.

There was one last-gasp chance for Tony McMahon but he thrashed it into the side-netting.

As the game finished, Millwall fans swarmed on to the Wembley pitch and there were ugly scenes before the presentation could take place.
