MARK Marshall has warned City’s promotion rivals: We’ve got plenty left in the tank.

The Bantams could clinch a play-off place over the Easter double header after moving six points clear of seventh-placed Southend with four games left.

Saturday’s 2-0 triumph at Bury was their fifth win in seven as Stuart McCall’s side also went level with Fleetwood, who are third.

Marshall began the party for over 2,500 travelling fans at Gigg Lane with a superb strike early in the second half.

And while he refuses to accept a top-six finish looks to be in the bag, the influential winger believes City are building momentum at the right time.

Marshall said: “From the start of the season until now, we’ve shown we don’t take our foot off the gas.

“We try and go out there every game and play entertaining football and go out there to win.

“We’re playing well and we know that there’s more to come.

“If you aren’t motivated when you get this close, then there’s something wrong.”

Southend’s second successive defeat and a draw for Millwall allowed the Bantams to put some daylight between themselves and the chasers.

But Marshall is not counting his chickens as City go into their holiday clashes with Oxford and promoted Sheffield United.

“We’ve got to get there first,” he added. “We’re not there yet.

“The play-offs are our aim but they are still far away. I don’t want to jinx it.

“We’re looking no further than getting the three points next week. We’ve got to stay focused.

“But Saturday was a big result. The people behind us were narrowing the gap so it was important we got something.

“We’re in a good position but we’ve got to keep it going.”

Marshall’s fifth goal of the season came after a stern word from his manager at half-time for not having a go from a similar position earlier.

Marshall said: “The gaffer said I should have shot in the first half when I cut in.

“So the next one was instinctive. I drove inside, saw a little gap and just curled it in.

“I’ve been getting loads of assists so it was nice to score myself.

“I keep scoring some good goals with my left foot and it gave us that extra confidence.

“We always knew Bury were going to be tight at the back. The gaffer warned us we’d have to be patient.

“But it was all about game management after that.”

Charlie Wyke made sure with his 25th goal of the campaign and seventh since joining City in January. But it was also his first away from home since scoring for Carlisle at Notts County on New Year’s Eve.

McCall said: “Sometimes there are players who get goals and do nothing else. But Charlie plays a big part.

“Even in the second half after we went two 2-0 up he was working away.

“He’s got an experienced head on his shoulders and he knows how to play like a proper number nine. He holds the ball up and brings other people into play.

“People have mentioned about him not scoring an away goal for a while so I was delighted that he’s put that ghost to bed.”
