CITY’S last-gasp hero Charlie Wyke savoured the buzz of his stoppage-time winner and revealed it wasn’t his first late show this season.

Wyke scored both goals in Saturday’s comeback victory over Swindon at Valley Parade to take his tally to six in ten games for the club.

Stuart McCall’s side regained fourth spot with the win, two points above Scunthorpe ahead of their televised showdown next weekend.

Wyke struck twice in a six-minute burst in front of the Kop with the winner coming in stoppage time.

He said: “That’s the second time I’ve scored this season in 90-plus minutes and it’s an unbelievable feeling.

“It was 97 minutes when I did it for Carlisle against Exeter so that was even later.

“I’m just glad to get the three points in the end because it was looking doom and gloom for 85 minutes but we turned it round.

“It’s a great feeling to score like that, especially when it’s in stoppage time.”

City’s year-long unbeaten home run was under threat when Swindon, who had only two shots on target, struck against the run of play 15 minutes from time.

But Wyke, who also hit the post with a first-half header, felt the shock of falling behind brought a greater urgency from his team.

He added: “It does drain you, especially when we’d played so well. We were creating chances and getting balls into the box but not really getting on the end of them.

“Thankfully after they scored we started moving the ball a bit quicker and got the goals.

“The momentum was in our favour and they were crumbling a bit.”

Both Wyke’s goals stemmed from Mark Marshall crosses and he hailed the supply line from City’s in-form winger.

“Marshy’s an absolute threat down the wings,” he said. “I’d hate to play against him because he’s rapid.

“He gets the ball in the box so it’s good for me and hopefully I can keep getting on the end of his crosses.

“With the teams above us picking up points as well, it was a huge win in the end.

“We’ve just got to keep going now and racking the points up to see where we end up.

“We’ll go to Scunthorpe now with a lot of confidence to show people what we are made of. I’m looking forward to it.”

Josh Cullen is prepared to play twice in less than 24 hours next weekend so he can feature at Glanford Park.

The midfielder is in international action for Republic of Ireland under-21s in their opening European Championship against Kosovo in Dublin on Saturday. But he also wants to be involved in City’s lunchtime clash with Scunthorpe the next day.

McCall said: “It shows fantastic commitment but you don’t expect any different from Josh.

“He is coming back straight after the game and will be back with the lads in the hotel on Saturday night. He wants to make himself available for Sunday.

“We’ll see what happens because those Kosovans can be quite tough!

“I’ve know people before come back and do it, certainly up in Scotland. But we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.”
