STUART McCall joked about making the City squad sit through the entire video of the Coventry game on the coach down to London yesterday.

“No doubt they’ll all be watching something different on their iPads,” he laughed ahead of the journey south to prepare for Charlton.

The Bantams chief willingly admitted that the overall entertainment value from Saturday’s contest, result aside, left something to be desired.

But there was one moment of real stand-out quality that he only picked up on second time around.

McCall had not realised how much good work went into the decisive second goal from Jordy Hiwula.

He said: “It starts with Tony McMahon and then all four strikers are involved. They all combine and it’s a really good goal.

“We talked about having the quality and when you’ve got that, you know you can always open up teams.”

It was another reminder that City remain serious contenders in the top-six tussle – a position they aim to strengthen with a third straight win.

McCall is aware that Charlton have under-achieved and even without target man Josh Magennis, he expects a testing evening.

“Charlton are in a position which belies their strength and quality of the squad,” said the City boss.

“I know Tony Watt from working with him for Scotland and he’s scored for Celtic against Barcelona.

“Lee Novak has scored goals at this level and Ricky Holmes is a really good player. But we’re going there with momentum on the back of two clean sheets and strikers scoring.

“We know we have to work exactly like we did on Saturday; be diligent and hopefully we can come back with a positive result.”

Alex Jones is rated “50-50”, after coming off on Saturday with a dead leg, but Alex Gilliead and Nicky Law are both out.

McCall said:“Gilly will have a scan but we’re looking at anything from ten days to three weeks. Nicky is building up and will hopefully be joining us in training on Thursday.”

New signing Dan Pybus has not travelled with the squad but will play in a youthful reserve side at Morecambe tomorrow.

The City boss has been pleased with what he’s seen so far of the former Sunderland youngster.

“It’s not costing us very much and he’s at a good age, so it’s one to have a look at,” he said.

“He’s central midfield but he’s got a good goal-scoring record for the under-23s up there.

“He’s got good technique in training and looks a genuine, infectious, ‘get involved’ midfield player.”

Meanwhile, City goalkeeper Colin Doyle has been named in Republic of Ireland’s provisional squad for their upcoming games against Wales and Iceland.
