JORDY Hiwula reckons City's strikers can keep pushing each other to maintain the supply of goals in the promotion run-in.

Top scorer Hiwula and Alex Jones were both on target at Coventry to clinch a third win in four League One games.

Jones, who has hit the net in all of those, is set to miss tomorrow night's trip to Charlton with a dead leg along with hamstring victim Alex Gilliead.

Hiwula started alongside Charlie Wyke and believes the competition among the forwards ensures all of them must be on the top of their game.

He said: "It's good to see the goals being shared round. It's important that all four strikers contribute goals towards the end of the season and we know we all need to play well to stay in the team.

"We're all strikers and all want to score goals. We all know if we get the chance we can put the ball in the back of the net.

"Jonesy did very well when he came on. He came off the bench, scored and got an assist as well. That's what we needed. We just needed a kick to get us going.

"Everyone is doing their bit in the team and that's crucial at this stage of the season."

Hiwula claimed his 12th goal of the season at the Ricoh Arena before celebrating in front of an empty stand. Defeat in Mark Robins' return as manager extended bottom club Coventry's miserable run to just one win in 19 games.

"It was a strange one but we'll have different challenges to face at various stages of the season," said the on-loan Huddersfield hitman.

"We've always got a full stadium at home, so we know it's going to be bouncing, but sometimes you go away and there's not that many fans there.

"You've also got to be aware because they will all want to impress their manager – but we kept plugging away and got the two goals.

"At half-time, we talked about keeping that belief and keep pushing and see how far that takes us. Once we got the first, we always thought we could go on for a second."

With Bolton winning at Fleetwood, City cut the gap to the second automatic promotion spot to just two points, although Phil Parkinson's side do have two games in hand.

But Hiwula is looking no further than the trip to the Valley as he said: "We're in a very good position and we've just got to keep going.

"Charlton is going to be a different game than Saturday at another big stadium. There will be a different atmosphere and we've got to take it in our stride.

"We'll work hard like we always do, give 100 per cent and hopefully get another three points."

Gilliead is definitely out after tweaking his hamstring in the first half, with Stuart McCall admitting he could miss up to three weeks if the injury turns out to be more severe.

Jones will be monitored closely and McCall said: "With a dead leg you can be all right in two or three days – but they can also be two or three weeks, depending on how deep the bleed is."
