NICKY Law was tapping the steering wheel to a familiar tune.

It’s not just the fans who have been singing that Romain Vincelot song all week.

That particular ear worm, unleashed during City’s win at Oldham, has also got a grip on the players.

“I saw Romain tweet about it and it is catchy,” smiled Law. “I was driving around and could still hear it and sing it myself.

“Josh has got his song, now Romain and it’s good.”

But none for Law yet despite an impressive campaign to date from the midfielder?

“I get a few sent through about hair but I’ve not heard them yet at a game. We’ll see!

“We had another great following last Saturday and it was great to hear them singing so loudly.

“You could hear them in the warm-up and they kept going all game. It gives you that extra edge because you see so many people there and don’t want to let them down.”

It was fitting that the away win should be clinched right under the noses of those fans. The emotion was clear to see as the players piled into celebrate Rory McArdle’s lunging goal in front of the stand.

Law added: “Kenny (Black) said at half-time it would be great to win the game in front of our away fans and that’s what happened.

“Rory deserved it because I thought he was brilliant. He’s always reliable when he comes in but I thought he was huge for us in that game.”

As one of City’s set-piece takers, seeing both goals at Oldham spring from dead-ball situations was an added boost for Law. The lack of goals from corners and free-kicks has been a concern.

He said: “We’re obviously not the biggest side in the world. I get tweets sometimes about short corners but we try different things to see if they work out.

“Romain (Vincelot) plays at the back sometimes and is decent in the air. But he’s not big.

“Hans (James Hanson) has gone now as well so it’s good to mix it up.

“Maybe Oldham thought we wouldn’t be that dangerous but Roz is a threat and you could see that.”

McArdle had earlier seen another effort chalked off for offside from a routine honed on the training ground.

“That was something we had been working on. It was a pity that didn’t count.”

Charlie Wyke’s much-anticipated arrival will increase the aerial power as City look to back up that victory with another against poor travellers Gillingham tomorrow.

Law has already studied the fixture list of their rivals and knows how vital another three points can be.

“We knew last week that teams were playing each other so it was important to get a win. It’s the same this weekend.

“Southend are playing Scunthorpe, Rochdale against Bristol Rovers and Bolton have got MK Dons, who are picking up.

“As I keep saying, we’re trying to get on that winning run. We couldn’t do it last month after we lost at Shrewsbury and drew with Millwall.

“We felt we should have won at Gillingham earlier in the season. We had enough chances.

“We’re confident whoever we face at home and this will be no different.

“It’s a family day as well so there should be a big crowd and we can send them all home happy again.”
