CHARLIE Wyke today admitted it wasn’t an easy call to leave Carlisle – but said he was blown away by the ambition of City.

The 24-year-old striker completed a £250,000 deadline day switch to Valley Parade – the club’s most expensive recruit for 17 years.

"It wasn't the easiest decision I've made," he said. "I had a number of phonecalls and meetings with the manager and the chairman, but once I went to Bradford and spoke to the chairman there, they were so ambitious and that's what won me over.

"You can just tell by the size of the place. They've sold so many season-tickets and they get 18,000 fans a week which is unbelievable for League One."

Wyke revealed he travelled to Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium for his medical on Tuesday, unaware of the Twitter storm he had caused when his car had been photographed outside Valley Parade.

He told the News and Star: “When I first got there I had to go for a medical at Manchester, at the Etihad - I was in there for a few hours, getting scanned for an hour and a half, getting checked by the physio for half an hour, heart scans for half an hour, and then making sure everything was signed, so I didn't really get on my phone until 4-5pm.

"When I did there were loads of notifications, people asking if it was true, but I've just kept quiet up to now.”

Wyke, who scored 39 goals in 89 games for Carlisle, will train with City for the first time this morning ahead of Saturday’s home clash with Gillingham.

He added: "I know Alex Gilliead here and Tony McMahon from Middlesbrough - he has said he will show me around and he's a big character who will help me settle in a lot quicker.

"I'm excited to get started. If I come here and score goals there is a really good chance of getting into the Championship.

“It's just time for me to show people what I can do - keep getting on the end of crosses and scoring goals."
