NICKY Law would not be surprised to see play-off history repeat itself this season.

Eight months ago, Millwall left City heartbroken with a Valley Parade victory that Phil Parkinson's side could not overturn in the return leg five days later.

Law fully expects the Lions to be in the mix for another top-six finish this time around. Six points currently separate City from eighth-placed Millwall, who do have a game in hand.

After an inconsistent start, the visitors are flexing their muscles and arrive in West Yorkshire on the back of a six-game unbeaten run. That included a 3-0 FA Cup drubbing of Bournemouth.

Millwall drew goalless with Charlton in their last outing and Law believes both London rivals will be slugging it out in the play-off race as the campaign heads towards its climax.

The Bantams midfielder said: "I was driving in to training with Roz (Rory McArdle) and we were both talking about Millwall and Charlton being the ones outside the top six who will make a move.

"Charlton have signed a fair few already and will probably bring in more. They've received good money for the young boy (Ademola Lookman) from Everton.

"I imagine they will be strong in the second half and I expect the same from Millwall. They've had a good run.

"Millwall were down the table at one point but they've pulled it back and aren't far off it now. They had a great win over Bournemouth in the FA Cup as well.

"But they are always a strong side and you expect that. I know they are going to be up there.

"You also look at other teams going well now like Southend and Fleetwood. It is difficult and that's why it is so important when you play each other."

Law will be fresh for the challenge after being spared a run-out in the Checkatrade Trophy win at Cheltenham on Tuesday.

Having scored City's winner in the previous round against Cambridge, Stuart McCall felt the heavy pitch would not have suited his quick passing game.

Law had one of his quietest games in last week's loss at Shrewsbury but it was a day when few in the City side stood out.

They need to bounce straight back against the last side from the same division to win at Valley Parade to fend off the chasing pack snapping at their heels.

"The gap has closed right up and we've also got to be careful of losing pace with the boys above us," said Law.

"Winning those two games (before Shrewsbury) made up a little bit of ground but you've got to keep it going. We all know that if you can get a run together in this league, it can look a lot different in a month's time.

"We know our biggest problem has been too many draws. Sometimes you're better off winning and losing than drawing so many.

"Compare our record to Rochdale, who have lost eight and will be above us if they win their game in hand.

"Sometimes it feels like draws are the worst results if they're happening too often. Too many and you'll suddenly find yourself slipping out of it."

Only Scunthorpe can match City's unbeaten home record in League One – but six clubs have still picked up more points on their own patch.

Law said: "We've been playing well at home and creating chances but it's just about turning those draws into wins. Beating Chesterfield took a bit of tension away and we've got to build on that."
