NEWCASTLE winger Alex Gilliead has completed his loan move to City.

As revealed in the Telegraph & Argus yesterday, the 20-year-old has joined for the rest of the season - including the play-offs.

Gilliead spent the first half of the season in League Two with Luton after playing 45 games last term for Carlisle.

Stuart McCall said: "We discussed him in the close season. But we felt we were okay in that area of that park because Ando (Paul Anderson) was obviously still in the building.

“I kept an eye on him. He had a good loan at Carlisle last year and has had another good one at Luton, albeit maybe not playing in his favourite position.

“For a young kid coming away, it’s nice that they’ve had a loan under their belts because of the expectation level here.

“It can sometimes be daunting if it’s your first loan away from home.”

Gilliead said: "I'm not trying to catch up on match fitness. I've had my fair share of games."

But Gilliead won't be available for the Checkatrade Trophy tie at Cheltenham on Tuesday because he has already featured in the competition.
