CITY will finally find out their next Checkatrade Trophy opponents tonight.

Cheltenham host Leicester under-23s in their delayed second-round tie, with the Bantams travelling to face the winners next Tuesday.

Assistant boss Kenny Black will be on spy duty at Whaddon Road, a sign that Stuart McCall’s men are taking a proper interest in the much-derided competition.

City’s home games have already seen two of the lowest Valley Parade crowds in modern years but they are treating it with the same degree of preparation as any knock-out.

McCall said: “Kenny is going to the game. We want to be in the best position we can in terms of preparation for our own tie.

“We are taking this very seriously. We want to go as far as we can and we have said that ever since getting through the group stage.

“You never know how a group will go but we got through and now everyone is very focused.”

City will know their potential quarter-final opponents before next week’s tie, with the draw for the last eight taking place on Thursday.

McCall is not bothered who he would prefer to face first.

He said: “Before the draw, people were asking who I wanted. We played Stoke under-23s – plus Charlie Adam – and we didn’t know that much about them.

“So it is difficult to say whether you want to play a league team or one of the under-23s. Everyone wants to get to Wembley.

“Cheltenham are a team we know more about but Leicester is nearer, meaning it is a more straightforward trip and we don’t have to consider staying overnight or whatever.

“Whoever we get, we will be going out to win it.”
