STUART McCall reckons City's season has gone better than expected so far.

The Bantams head into the blank weekend fourth in League One. Leaders Scunthorpe have a nine-point advantage and continue to set a relentless pace, with Phil Parkinson's Bolton and Sheffield United their closest challengers.

But City are still tucked in there despite Saturday's loss at Swindon, with a six-point leeway on the play-off cut-off point.

McCall continues to play down their chances but admitted: "We're in a good position, probably better than we thought we would be. But for me and the coaching staff, we certainly don't start looking above ourselves.

"Bolton and Sheffield United are expected to be up there with the squads they've got. We just want to do as well as we can. That's not being negative.

"You look at the results of the teams up there and you always concentrate more on the play-off area. But I'm not going to be focusing too closely on how other clubs get on.

"It's about ourselves and trying to get as many points as we can. Hopefully we can continue what we've been doing in the early part of the season."

With the next transfer window just over a month away, chairman Edin Rahic has already promised McCall backing if City are in the promotion mix.

There are regular meetings among the coaching staff and board to discuss possible targets.

McCall said: "Every week we are discussing things, myself, Edin, Greg (Abbott) and Kenny (Black). We had another chat this week.

"It's a month to go until the window opens again but you are always monitoring situations. You always have to be aware to move if anything happens.

"You also have to discuss the possible scenario if someone comes in for your players. You have to be ready for any situation."
