JAMES Hanson's winner against Northampton at Valley Parade was "written in the stars" for City legend Bobby Campbell.

The centre forward scored the only goal after 56 minutes with a Campbell-esque header to settle an emotional night in honour of the club's record scorer, who died last week.

It was City's third win in four as they bounced straight back from the shock of losing 3-0 at Southend.

Stuart McCall declared: "We said it would be fitting if James got the goal with a header; the big number nine.

"The last thing Bobby said to me at Bryan Edwards' funeral in pre-season was that Hanson would get goals if we could supply him.

"Bob was never wrong – and if he was, you'd never tell him!

"I thought the tribute to him was spot on. The fans were fantastic and the result just put the icing on the cake."

Hanson had two earlier headers before claiming his fourth goal in as many games and he admitted: "It was probably the hardest chance I had.

"The lads know how much Bobby meant to Bradford and the gaffer, who was good mates with him.

"I never met Bobby unfortunately but a couple of mates did down the Ambassador (Club) and they told me all the stories."

With the top three also winning, City stayed fourth in League One but have a seven-point play-off cushion.

Northampton rarely threatened apart from an Alex Revell header that was superbly kept out by Colin Doyle.

Bantams boss McCall said: "I enjoyed it apart from the last ten minutes that were a bit nail-biting. It was a fitting end.

"We had to be patient but we did what we set out to do – get balls in the box and shots on goal.

"We defended well. Doyley made one excellent save but we take the much-deserved three points.

"We want to try and win every game and we'll go down to Swindon with exactly the same mentality."
