JOSH Cullen chooses his words as carefully as his passes.

The West Ham loanee has a point to make – about only taking a point.

City’s fans are enjoying the unbeaten start to the season as their side jostle with League One’s early front-runners.

But for all the pats on the back about the style with which they have begun the campaign, Cullen wants to see more end result.

You could put a fair case for the Bantams winning all seven of their league games so far. They have frequently bossed possession and opened up opponents.

So the fact that the last three have all finished in stalemate is an understandable source of irritation for Cullen.

And the midfielder insists they must look to put it right as City return to Valley Parade against Bristol Rovers.

Cullen said: “We can take positives out of the performances because we could have won all three games.

“But we’ve got to make sure that we do that. We can’t keep coming off the pitch saying that we’ve played well but haven’t won.

“You look at Gillingham last week and with a little bit more quality and being more clinical, we would have taken the three points

“As much as we’re unbeaten and have still got that belief in the dressing room, now is the time to kick on and turn those good performances into wins again.”

With back-to-back weekend hauls to Millwall and Gillingham, it seems a long while since City were last on home turf.

Their own patch will be as welcome a sight for Stuart McCall as the returning players who have swelled the training pitch in that period.

Suddenly from a position of struggling to find enough fit bodies to fill a seven-man bench, the Bantams boss could soon find it tough to fit them all in.

Cullen added: “It’s great to see all the lads out there. The competition for places is fierce and we’re all enjoying that as players.

“It can only push you on further when you know there’s someone behind you vying to get in the team.

“You have to perform well to stay in the team and that’s healthy for the squad and everyone around it.

“We’ll keep pushing each other on. We’ve got a really strong group here and we all believe we can do well.

“Every club want that competition. You couldn’t look at anyone in the squad and say they won’t go out there and put in a solid performance for the team.

“If you get injuries or people missing, that won’t affect the quality. Every player at the club has got the ability to be starting in the team.

“That can only give us confidence for the season ahead. It’s a great feeling.”

Cullen continues to relish the freedom of his more attacking brief under McCall. He scored a maiden goal at MK Dons and got forward to fire off two shots against Gillingham – one a lot closer than the other.

“I won’t talk about the one in the first half but I caught the other one nicely and it was just inches wide.

“Hopefully I can keep getting in those positions and striking it like that. Do that and hit the target and it’s in the back of the net.

“But it’s good to get back to familiar surroundings at home. We’re comfortable playing there and hopefully we can get three points this time to go with the performance.”
