COLIN Doyle has gone from feast to famine but you won’t hear City’s keeper complaining.

Doyle was arguably Blackpool’s busiest player last season in an often one-man attempt to stave off the drop.

But with the way City are currently performing, he has found himself under-employed at his new club.

Doyle admitted: “It’s different from last year when I was playing at Blackpool and had to make four or five saves a game. Now I’m only making the odd save here or there.

“I’ve probably had more to do with my feet at the moment because we’re trying to play out from the back.

“But it’s been a good start personally and collectively and we just want to keep that unbeaten run going as long as we can.”

Stuart McCall’s insistence on his team keeping possession and building from the back has presented a new challenge for Doyle, who is encouraged to pass short to team-mates rather than launching long clearances upfield.

“I haven’t really played that way before,” added the Irishman. “Blackpool was a case of clearing it out if there were any risks but here it’s a little bit different.

“But I’m enjoying it and it makes you concentrate. Instead of trying to smash the ball as far as you can, you try to pick people out.

“It’s the sort of test you want as a keeper but it’s pleasing for us because we’re playing well and I can imagine it’s pleasing for the fans seeing the style of football.

“We can’t get carried away, though. There are only seven games gone and when the pitches get a little bit muddy and bobbly things might have to change.

“But we’ve got both dimensions to our game now. We’ve got the passing at the back and obviously with big Jim up front back from injury, we can do that as well if we have to.”
