NICKY Law is braced for City's biggest test of the new season tonight but insisted: "We're playing as well as anyone."

The Bantams face recently-relegated MK Dons and Kieran Agard – the striker they tried to sign.

Agard kicked off with a two-goal debut on Saturday and Law admits his side are well aware of the task facing them.

But fresh from their opening win at Peterborough, the midfielder feels City are ready for it.

He said: "We're delighted with how we're playing. Obviously we'd like to score more goals but I'm sure that will come.

"I think this will be our toughest test so far but one we're looking forward to.

"MK Dons play the right way and they play good football as well – but we're going confidently. I don't think there will be many teams playing better than us at the minute.

"It's the variety of our play as well. We've got big Hans (James Hanson) if we need to but he's not our first port of call."

Law has been impressed with how City have hit the ground running after their summer reshuffle, especially with injuries hindering team selection.

He said: "It was a strange pre-season. I don't think any of us played that great.

"So we went into the season not really knowing what we'd be like. Then we had the injuries and it was a patched-up team.

"But Romain (Vincelot) has been fantastic at the back alongside Nat Knight-Percival. He's strolled through the games.

"Young Danny (Devine) has done very well in the three games and the manager has been able to add bodies to it."

Law got his first glimpse of Josh Cullen alongside him against the Posh and was hugely impressed. He can see a touch of Dean Furman in the West Ham midfielder.

"We want to play and he just fits in to that and makes us that much better," said Law.

"I'd heard a lot about Josh and how well he'd done last year but to see it first hand in training, you could tell he's a very good footballer.

"It's a credit to the club and the impression they made last season that he wanted to come back.

"He reminds me a bit of Deano. He's so small but puts himself about – very similar but a bit more attacking and he likes to drive with the ball.

"You like to play with good players and he's certainly that."

MK Dons broke their transfer record to land Agard from Bristol City last week after the Bantams had tried to take him on loan.

Assistant boss Kenny Black admitted the three-year deal for the former Rotherham forward was far more than they could afford.

Black said: "The new owners have come in here and tried to be as expansive as they can in terms of budget. But we do understand we've got to live within our means.

"MK Dons are coming from the Championship and have those resources.

"But the window's got two weeks to go and there may be comings and goings before then. Even getting these injured players back and possibly adding to that will give us a lift."

Hanson (tight calf) and Tony McMahon (knock) will have late tests but City hope both can carry on. Timothee Dieng may be added to the squad and Vincent Rabiega is awaiting international clearance.

But Black knows City are heading to Buckinghamshire in good spirits after Saturday and said: "It was really important to get that elusive first goal and the bus journey back was great.

"You'd have probably thought two draws at Peterborough and MK Dons would have been acceptable.

"Now we've got a victory and anything we can take from Milton Keynes will be good with two home games then coming up."
