STUART McCall insists City will not be “rail-roaded” into signing players who do not fit the bill at Valley Parade.

After a raft of departures at the end of last season, McCall has faced a rebuilding job after being appointed as Phil Parkinson’s successor earlier this summer.

He has signed over a handful of new recruits but is still looking to add up to three more players to his squad.

A rule change which has scrapped emergency loans means clubs can now only sign players on loan during the two allotted transfer windows.

But McCall will continue to search for the right men that can improve his squad ahead of the transfer deadline at the end of this month.

The City boss said: “We are hopeful of signing two or three fresh faces before the window closes.

“As a manager who likes to play with two strikers, I like to have four strikers in the squad.

“We're certainly looking for another frontman, probably another central midfield player and possibly another wide player.

“Defensively, we have seven or eight players vying for places, so we should be okay in that area.

“Rest assured, we are doing everything we can, but we won't be railroaded into giving someone a two-year contract just because we are short of bodies. We’ve got to make sure we get the right players in.”

McCall admits City cannot compete financially with the division’s big-hitters, adding: “Some players are out of reach and that’s a fact.

“I’ve got to be honest, the likes of Bolton, MK Dons and Charlton, coming down from the Championship, can afford to spend a lot more than us. We know that, but we’re still looking to strengthen.”
