STUART McCall admitted Burnley’s Premier League quality proved the difference at Valley Parade this afternoon.

The Clarets won 4-1, including three in a six-minute spell started by an Andre Gray double. Filipe Morais pulled one back just before half-time.

McCall was pleased with the overall performance from a side missing James Hanson and James Meredith again as well as Stephen Darby and Rory McArdle.

He said: “For the first 15 minutes I thought we were really good. We took the game to them, created a few opportunities and played at a decent tempo.

“The first two goals were terrific from their point of view. Andre Gray is worth £9 million and sometimes you’ve got to hold your hand up.

“I was disappointed with the third because it was a bread-and-butter setpiece and we’ve got to do better.

“To lose three goals like that after starting so well put us on the back foot. It would have been easy for us to go into our shell but we stepped up again and fully deserved to get a goal.

“The second half was mixed and we had as much as them.

“But you’ve got to accept sometimes that when you’re up against quality it only takes a couple of seconds to cut through you, which they did.

“We still need to be better with certain things but given the lads we had out there, I was pleased with some individual performances.”

McCall was delighted to sign Coventry midfielder Romain Vincelot on a two-year deal before the game.

He said: "Everyone I asked can only speak highly of him. You look at his record at this level and he's done ever so well."
