STUART McCall insists he will not be pressed into snap judgements on players just to fill his slender squad.

City today begin their first full week of pre-season training with the group boosted by a number of trialists – some from Germany and elsewhere.

But the new boss will take his time assessing them properly and not hurry into making a call simply to swell his resources.

McCall, who last week signed Nicky Law and Nathaniel Knight-Percival, said: “We have a few trialists with us. Bringing in players gives us a good chance to see what they are about.

“We don’t want to miss out on good players but also we aren’t going to be railroaded into doing something quick.

“We’ve got some in from abroad as well as here and it does no harm to have a look.

“I did it with two Estonian boys with Motherwell. We brought them in for a trial in pre-season, they did well and they ended up staying for a year before we sold them both for £350,000.”

Former teenage prodigy George Green is among the players already back at the training ground as he looks to rebuild his career with Burnley.

The Premier League new boys are keen to send out the gifted midfielder on loan and – given the close links between the two clubs – City have been given first nod ahead of several other interested parties.

Green went off the rails after leaving Valley Parade for Everton as a 15-year-old schoolboy in 2011 in a move that was expected to rise up to £2m. By the middle of last season, he was playing non-league at Ossett Albion.

But Burnley gave him one more chance when they signed him in January and reports from Lancashire on his progress since have been hugely positive.

Green, currently on a two-year deal at Turf Moor, remains a huge talent, capable of playing in the number ten role, wide or central midfield, and has already made it clear how thrilled he is to be back at City with a manager he knows so well.

Green, now 20, tweeted his delight at McCall’s appointment and is now hoping to win his favour during pre-season.

McCall confirmed: “George came in on Thursday with us. He’s still contracted with Burnley but is one we can have a look at over the next ten days.

“Certainly this week we will get a good look at him.”

Another new face at the Woodhouse Grove base is German fitness coach Robert Lossau.

The 50-year-old has previously worked with Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga and has past links with the national team.

A new goalkeeping coach and head of recruitment will also be unveiled in the next few days as McCall builds a new back-room following the mass departure to Bolton.

He said: “There’s a lot of work to be done with the staff and the players. But everything is a team effort with the new owners and a team decision.”

City cooled their interest in centre half Mark Beevers – before he officially signed for Bolton yesterday – to focus that money on other targets and other areas of the team where the need is more pressing.

“Every second of the day is spent speaking to agents and looking at players and trying to get the best possible ones,” added McCall.

“There’s nothing in the pipeline immediately but many players see Bradford as an attractive club to come to. We’ve had good dialogues with a lot of clubs, reserve-team managers, academy managers.

“You have specific targets but then somebody else pops up and it can change.

"If it means we have to wait a week or so for our top targets then we will do so. But if somebody comes up in the meantime we will obviously have a look.”
