BILLY Clarke insists City pack enough power in their ranks right now to field two strong teams.

Clarke’s first goal for five months clinched a sixth win in seven for the rampant Bantams as they beat Swindon at Valley Parade.

The fourth 1-0 victory on the bounce also lifted City into third spot – and six points off an automatic promotion place with five games left.

Clarke believes the array of talented options at Phil Parkinson’s disposal is driving their current momentum.

He said: “We’ve got a great squad. It’s probably one of the strongest.

“Look at the players coming on and those who don’t even make the bench – people like Paul Anderson who has played most of his career in the Championship.

“When they are called upon, they’ll be great assets to the team and obviously we’ve got Rory (McArdle) to come in as well.

“Our reserve team could hold its own in this league pretty easily.”

As it stands, City are closer to second than dropping out of the play-off zone. But Clarke feels there can be no let-up as they look to nail down a top-six finish.

“The success we’ve had over the last few weeks has been from going into every game with the same mentality,” he added.

“We can’t take our foot off the gas. We’ve got to keep going and we’ll start again at Shrewsbury next week and go with that same attitude.

“It obviously helps when teams around you lose but if we’re winning it doesn’t matter how they get on.

“Look at where we were two or three months ago and how far we’ve come. We’ve worked exceptionally hard and we’re delighted with the rewards for that.

“The togetherness we have is key. We’re grafting for each other and we all want the same thing.”

City’s latest win was not particularly fluent but they have now gone over six hours since last conceding a goal at leaders Wigan.

Clarke was on the scoresheet for the first time since November 14 – and last season’s leading marksman admitted the drought had played on his mind.

He said: “The goal was long overdue for me and it was even more important that it contributed to a win.

“With the season I had last year to finish top scorer, I do compare. I always try and improve every year.

“I’m not an out-and-out striker. I do play borderline midfield as well but I was delighted to score.

“I thought the keeper made a meal of it. I kept my header on target and he flapped – it was clearly over the line.

“But it doesn’t matter what the score is as long as we get the win. It’s all about getting the results.

“It would be nice to win 5-0 or 6-0 and play like Barcelona but every game’s a battle at this stage of the season. Everyone’s scrapping and the pitches aren’t great.

“The run of 1-0s we’ve had is incredible. Momentum is a good thing to have and we want to keep it going.

“We’ll be ready to go to war against Shrewsbury again.”
