REECE Burke is dreaming of his final appearance in City colours.

Not that he is counting down the days; far from it.

But the West Ham defender is desperate to play in London again – at Wembley.

Burke will this morning find out the extent of any Achilles damage he suffered in Tuesday’s game, with the results of yesterday’s scan due.

But that setback won’t dampen his enthusiasm to prolong his Valley Parade loan to the very end – by signing off in the League One play-off final.

Burke ensured his temporary contract stretched until the end of May, just in case the Bantams can make it to the promotion shoot-out

Burke said: “Playing my last game at Wembley would be good. I would be here if we did get there, I checked.

“The gaffer did say when it all got sorted that it (the play-off final) was in there. So that is an incentive.

“The league is really tight and we can catch teams up. We have a few games in hand and need to go on a good run.

“I want to get promoted. That is an aim of mine as a player and for the club and the fans – that is what we all want.”

The news that City had secured Burke for the remainder of the season was greeted with universal approval from supporters. The teenager admitted he has been flattered by their reaction.

“It was nice that the fans were happy to see me stay. The comments I get off the fans on social media are really pleasing to go through.

“It makes me want to get even better. I really appreciate it.

“I feel comfortable here. I settled in at the start and I couldn’t tell you one person that I don’t get on well with.

“Having my future sorted is great. I was month by month at the start of the season.

“After each month, I would be on to my agent and club over the phone asking ‘where is it (up to) now?’

“Now I know I am here for the season and I don’t have to worry about it. I can give it my full concentration and try to do well for Bradford City.

“It is always going to be on your mind, you need to prepare where you will be.

“Each month, I didn’t know if I would be taking my stuff back. It was a bit of a pain.”

Pain is something that Burke has become accustomed to of late.

Before Tuesday’s injury, he had to cope with a severe cut on his wrist after being shoved into an advertising board at Gillingham. He shared a picture of the damage on social media – it was not for the squeamish.

West Ham paid for Burke to undergo surgery from a private Harley Street doctor and he has to play in a protective splint to guard the wound.

He added: “At first, I didn’t realised I had done my hand – I was more worried about my back. But then I saw it and was a bit shocked.

“The splint is a hard bit of plastic just above my hand. It prevents me from over-extending it, which could open it up again.

“Other than that, it is fine. I’d rather have played in a splint than have to wait another three or four weeks.

“It felt it had been a long time when I came back against Port Vale.”

Burke’s absence means a recall for Nathan Clarke, who has been involved in six clean sheets in his last seven starts.
