LEE Evans has made it clear to Wolves he wants to stay at City.

The Wales under-21 midfielder’s loan at Valley Parade is due to run out after the FA Cup third-round tie with Bury on January 9.

But Evans, who has played 17 times in his four months with the Bantams, sees his future in West Yorkshire rather than the West Midlands.

Phil Parkinson has already spoken to Molineux chief Kenny Jackett about the possibility of keeping him and the player himself is keen to get it sorted.

Evans said: “I’ve been in talks with Wolves as well to see if it’s definitely going to happen. It’s looking like it’s going in the right direction and I’m very happy here.

“I see Bradford as being my club. I don’t think I’m an outsider looking in.

“I’m settled in my private life in a nice house up here and that reflects on the pitch.

“It will be hard if I don’t stay here in January. It will be disappointing for me.

“But hopefully we can get something sorted and I keep playing here because that’s the main thing.”

Evans arrived at the end of August along with Reece Burke as Parkinson looked to steady City’s wobbly start.

He has become a regular fixture in central midfield, with Parkinson rotating Billy Knott and Gary Liddle as his partner.

Evans added: “Without counting chickens, I’d like to think so (that he’s the first choice). But we’ve got two quality players in Billy and Gary and there’s Chrissy Routis who can play in there as well.

“I’ve seen in training that he’s technically a very good footballer so there’s a lot of competition.

“When you get the shirt, you have to put in the performances to show the manager you are worthy of keeping it.

“I’m playing regularly and there’s nothing more I could have asked for, especially at the start of the season when I was watching games at Wolves.

“I just wanted to play somewhere and when the manager rang, it was perfect for me.

“The year hit a brick wall for me early on. I was out of the plans at Wolves for a while and it was very frustrating. I tried to go out on loan in the January window.

“But I’m really enjoying it at Bradford. It’s good to get the chance to play regularly and it’s down to me to play well.”

City dropped a place to tenth because of their weekend wash-out. Parkinson watched Bury jump over them with a 1-0 win against Saturday’s opponents Chesterfield.

But the Bantams are only three points off fifth, with a game in hand, and Evans is eyeing a productive festive schedule. Immediately after Christmas, they face leaders Burton, Sheffield United and Gillingham in a potentially pivotal period.

He said: “We’re playing a few teams in and around where we want to be. They will be tough games but if you don’t want to play in those top-of-the-table clashes, there’s no point in being out there.

“With the games coming thick and fast, it’s important to get a big run going. One came to an end at Walsall but I’m sure we can start another one.

“Walsall was disappointing but we then looked at the FA Cup game as the chance to bounce back and put on a bit of a show for the fans, which was nice to do.

“We’ve been very tough to break down away from home, keeping clean sheets, and hopefully that will continue.”
