JAMES Meredith has been called up by Australia.

The 27-year-old was today named in Ange Postecoglou’s squad for next month’s World Cup qualifier away to Jordan.

Meredith, who scored his first goal since October 12 on Sunday, has been in excellent form for City this season and Phil Parkinson believes he has earned the international call.

Parkinson said: “I’m absolutely delighted for James and he really deserves it.

“He is an excellent player for us, not just in what he does on the pitch but the way he trains so hard every day.

“I’ve been a bit surprised that he hasn’t been looked at it in the past.

“But now he’s got his chance in a high-profile game, a World Cup qualifier, and I’m so pleased for him.”

The game takes place on Thursday, October 8 in the Al-Hassan Stadium in Irbid.

Australia, by far the strongest nation in their group, have won all three of their previous games against Kyrgyzstan, Bangladesh and Tajikistan.
