JAMES Hanson reckons it’s written in the script for Rory McArdle to break his goal duck in Sunday’s Yorkshire duel with Sheffield United – because it’s on the telly.

McArdle has not scored in 2015; his last goal was on December 20 against Scunthorpe.

That was a superb left-foot finish from the edge of the penalty area but the 37-game wait since is his longest drought in City colours.

But Hanson believes the presence of the TV cameras at Valley Parade will provide added inspiration for the centre half to get off the mark for the season.

Two of McArdle’s ten goals for the club have come in games shown live on Sky Sports – against Aston Villa in the Capital One Cup and then in the play-off final win over Northampton.

And Hanson said: “Rory’s probably due a goal and he loves it on TV – we always have a joke that he’s a Sky player!

“It’s time for him to pop up and score, especially as he’s a (Sheffield) Wednesday fan as well. It’s all set up for him.”

Sheffield United have lost only one of their previous ten Valley Parade visits when Nahki Wells scored both in a 2-0 City win two years ago.

The Blades had their revenge with a televised victory 11 months ago, taking advantage against ten men after Stephen Darby was sent off in the first minute of the second half.

Hanson added: “It was disappointing to lose to them here last season. We had a couple of good chances and they scored at a time when we were pressing.

“But hopefully we can punish them this year. We always have good games against Sheffield United and it would be nice to get one over on them.

“We’re getting more of a settled side. It’s four unbeaten now and the gaffer has been sticking with a similar team because we’ve been performing well.

“We’re building that understanding of how everyone is playing and we’re looking forward to the weekend because it’s going to be a cracker.

“We can go into the game fully confident because of the run we’re on and I’m sure the crowd will be right behind us.”

The Blades were the pre-season promotion favourites. But they head for West Yorkshire on the back of successive home defeats to Bury and Colchester, leaking six goals in the process.

Boss Nigel Adkins has warned them to tighten up defensively and striker Billy Sharp said: “There is a lot to work on because on Sunday, live on Sky, there’ll be no hiding place.”
