ON-LOAN City midfielder Lee Evans has a confession to make – he used to support Leeds United.

But the 21-year-old hopes the Valley Parade faithful will forgive that when he starts doing the business for his new club.

Dad Dean, a fan since the Don Revie era, used to take him to Elland Road a couple of times a season from their Welsh home.

The Wales under-21 international said: “I was trying to keep that quiet. But I was a Leeds fan when I was younger.

“It’s just a family thing from my dad and my uncles on that side. It goes back years.

“But obviously I’m a professional now with a job to do. If I play well, then hopefully the fans won’t mind.

“It’s more important for me that Bradford are doing well.”

Evans has been looking to go out on loan from Wolves since February when he lost his starting place in Kenny Jackett’s plans.

After making 26 appearances in their League One title-winning season and a further 18 in the Championship, he found himself out the picture

“It was tough to manage. I had a great start to the Championship and we were flying.

“Unfortunately I then broke my hand but my performances weren’t as good after that and I was the one to be dropped.

“I couldn’t get back in the team and was looking to go out on loan then but it wasn’t meant to be.

“I had a hard six months barely playing and felt I needed to go out somewhere and play football for a season for my development.

“The gaffer there agreed and they wanted to find me the right club. Thankfully Bradford came in.

“It was more than likely I’d have to drop down a division but this is a massive club. The amount of season-tickets they’ve sold for League One is unheard of.”

Evans, a central midfielder who likes to get the ball down and play, enjoyed plenty of highs in his last experience of League One. Wolves romped to the title with 103 points and broke six club records along the way.

He knows all about the high expectations generated by big crowds and has no problem dealing with that pressure.

“It’s exactly the same at Wolves. The fans expect a lot but so they should.

“They pay their money to come and watch. Every player wants to be part of a successful side and obviously you want the fans to be backing you.

“They put pressure on you to do well and you’ve got do everything to make yourself and the team better.

“We had a really strong squad. It was a great to be a part of – something similar here would be nice.”

Evans and fellow new arrival Reece Burke joined the squad for Thursday’s video nasty as Parkinson replayed the grim performance against Gillingham.

Evans said: “I was in there with the lads watching it and we all know where we have to improve.

“There a lot of experienced players who aren’t letting it get to them. They know you’ve got to keep the spirit up every day in training and keep fighting for each other.

“People might think bottom of the league is all doom and gloom. But it’s only three games in and a lot can soon change.”
