SHREWSBURY won’t be fazed by the Valley Parade faithful according to boss Micky Mellon.

The Shrews head for West Yorkshire in high spirits after shocking Blackburn at Ewood Park in the Capital One Cup.

Goals from strikers James Collins, his second in two games, and Tyrone Barnett clinched the first-round upset as they bounced straight back from an opening-day loss to Millwall.

And Mellon believes his side will be lifted by the big stage.

He said: “I’m expecting us to enjoy the occasion and thrive on what will be a terrific atmosphere.

“It’s always a tough place to go but a good place to go and play football so we’ll embrace it.”

Shrewsbury are no strangers to large League One crowds. Two seasons ago they went to Molineux and held Wolves to a 0-0 draw in front of 24,012, ending the home side’s nine-game winning streak.

“There’s a lot of experience right through the group so it won’t be rabbits in the headlights-type stuff,” added Mellon.

“We’ll prepare the team properly and speak about all the stuff that needs to be spoken about. One of those will be the big crowd and dealing with that in the best way we can.

“It will be a tough test because Bradford are a very well established League One team.

“They will be expected to be up there in the shake-up at the end. It’s an opportunity to test ourselves against one of the fancied teams.

“They’re such a big club and they’ve got a good management team, who I have a lot of respect for and have done very well.”

Mellon has played two different formations so far but may go with 4-4-2, bringing in speedy right winger Shaun Whalley to match up City. Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro is expected to return on the left.

Mellon said: “I’ve managed against Bradford in Phil Parkinson’s time. They’re always very well organised, very well motivated, well drilled and a talented team.

“(James) Hanson’s a handful but we’ve done our homework and they have many good options who are threats.

“We’ll try to exploit the areas which we believe will give us a good chance of winning the game.”
