CITY will up the search for another centre half while they are in Scotland this week.

Experienced former Huddersfield defender Jamie McCombe played the first half in Saturday's 3-0 win at Farsley Celtic but is not with the squad on tour.

A long-term replacement for Andrew Davies is still top of the list for Phil Parkinson with just under four weeks to the season opener against Swindon. He is thought to have a couple of targets in mind.

Trialist left back Greg Leigh, who spent last season on loan at Crewe from Manchester City, has made the trip north of the border.

There is no place for Sanchez Watt, despite a goal and an assist at Throstle Nest, but City could revisit that situation later.

Assistant boss Steve Parkin said: "It was nice to see him get his goal but we know all about him. We don't have to take Sanchez with us to look at him.

"The key thing for Scotland is getting all our new players with the others bonding and doing some good training. We'll maybe ship a few up there if need be for the last game.

"I think we'll see how the game goes tomorrow (against Motherwell) but I think there could be an opportunity for a couple of newcomers up, certainly by Saturday."

Stephen Darby, Steve Davies, Rory McArdle and Billy Knott – who all sat out the opening friendly with slight injuries – will continue their treatment in Scotland. So Parkinson has taken all the youngsters except for first-year pro James King, who has a groin problem.

Parkin said: "We've obviously got to take quite a few of the young ones and a couple of the trialists, both to have a look at them and to make sure we've got enough players to fulfil both fixtures.

"It's a good chance for the young pros who have all travelled. It's an opportunity for them to come and prove themselves.

"The injured senior players are with us so we can make sure the rehab' is spot on. They can have treatment right through the day or in the evening.

"It's important to get a really good week's work in to them and try and get them fit for the following week."

James Hanson stole the show at Throstle Nest with a first-half double to put any summer transfer uncertainty behind him. He also skippered the team up to half-time.

Parkin said: "There's been a lot of speculation in the summer about Hans and Millwall. But he showed everybody that he is still very much committed to Bradford City.

"Hans enjoyed having the captain's armband. He's an experienced player now and he relished that extra responsibility – I thought he was excellent."

Parkin was also impressed with new signing Josh Morris, who played central midfield up to half-time and rattled the crossbar.

"Josh is always looking to probe and get into areas where he can create or score," said the Bantams assistant manager.

"He's a good footballer and seems a really smashing kid as well. He's worked really hard, he's enjoyed the training and I think he could be a real plus for us this season."
