PHIL Parkinson is aiming to have a couple of new faces on board by the time City begin pre-season training next week.

The Bantams report back from their summer break on Monday and Parkinson is hoping his work in the transfer market will have paid off.

The club are seeking to bolster their squad in every department with defender Andrew Davies and striker Jon Stead both out of contract.

Parkinson confirmed that Andy Williams was on City's radar before the striker opted to join Doncaster instead.

Williams scored 22 goals for Swindon last season as they reached the League One play-off final.

"He was one of four or five strikers we were looking at – but it's an ongoing process," said Parkinson.

"Hopefully by early next week, we might have made progress and got a couple of new faces in for the start of pre-season training."

James Hanson's proposed move to League One rivals Millwall has progressed no further as City have yet to find a suitable replacement.

Parkinson reiterated that he was keen to keep all the club's best players at Valley Parade.

The City boss said he was determined to build a squad capable of maintaining the club's steady progress in recent seasons.

The Bantams finished seventh in League One last term – one place outside the play-off places – and Parkinson insisted: "I want to keep our best players.

"I'm looking to build a squad, not weaken it, in order to continue the improvement and progression of this football club."
