CITY today confidently upped their season-ticket goal to 17,500 after smashing the five-figure barrier.

Ticket sales broke 10,000 this week, prompting the club's hierarchy to raise the bar for the target they have set.

City had originally aimed at selling 15,000 season-tickets when the cut-price £149 deal – the cheapest in League One – was launched last month.

But given the level of take-up so far, they believe that figure can be increased by another 2,500 by the July 5 deadline.

They have also opened the lower level of the north-west corner stand for fans.

Chief operating officer James Mason said: "Initially 15,000 was ambitious but realistic. But we see no reason why we can't now look at 17,500.

"We've broken the 10,000 mark with a good four weeks to go, including weekends when we're going to have extended opening hours.

"With approximately 20 per cent of those 10,000 being new season-ticket holders, and with some of our strongest weekends to come with people getting paid etc, that's why we have revised our target."

Mason revealed there has been a "huge conversion" from previous flexicard holders upgrading to season-tickets. There is still a significant number of season-ticket owners from last term who have yet to renew.

He said: "We don't want to assume that everyone will. But at the same time, having dropped the prices by £50, you'd think the 12,500 combination of season-tickets and flexis we had last year will all do so.

"We're doing initiatives with businesses for corporate season-ticket holders and we're speaking to the university about bringing students on board.

"And although some people are asking the question can we bring the date forward to renew, we're giving everyone that did have a season-ticket the opportunity to have their same seat next year.

"So assume those seats are gone – but buy now and you can move after the date."

There will now be more choice available for supporters after seats in the bottom tier of the north-west corner between the Kop and main stand were put on sale.

Joint-chairman Mark Lawn said: "I've got to be quite honest, it's one of the best views in the place. Fans haven't had the opportunity to buy there before.

"I want to say a big thank you to the fans that have brought new season-ticket holders as well. We should keep trying to get more in and I believe we can smash this target."

The low adult price will remain for the next 24 days, after which it will go up to £299.

Meanwhile, former Bantams starlet George Green has been released by Everton. The 19-year-old midfielder, who left Valley Parade in 2011 for an initial £300,000, finished last season on loan at Tranmere.
