THERE’S only one person happier than Stuart McCall at taking the Rangers job – and that’s his missus Tracey.

I bet she’s got a few more grey hairs from him pacing up and down the house all the time. No wonder she’s spent more time out riding her horses than stuck indoors with him!

I know Stuart was just desperate to get another opportunity after Motherwell and the fact nothing else came along was probably because he’s been waiting for Rangers.

With his success at Motherwell, maybe Stuart should have left the summer before when he had the chance to go back to Bramall Lane. He performed miracles up there given his budget was always being cut and was losing players.

You know what Stuart’s like, sometimes he can be too honest about things. He stayed on until he felt it was the right time to go from Motherwell because he couldn’t take them any further.

He’s only there as interim manager for the rest of the season but that’s the perfect scenario. It suits both parties.

He is dipping his toe in. They can have a look at him and vice versa and see where we are in May.

Rangers fans will be more patient and supportive because they appreciate having someone who’s one of their own instead of an outsider coming in.

Stuart has said that whether he stays in the future depends on whether they win promotion or not but it’s a fantastic opportunity for him.

They’ll make the play-offs and the ironic thing is that there could be a final showdown between Rangers and Motherwell, who are second bottom in the Premier.

That will be an awkward situation for Stuart. But he’s a winner and 100 per cent Rangers now – he knows what promotion means.

They are a massive club and, even coming from a Celtic fan, events from the past few weeks off the field have suggested they are turning over a new leaf.

It’s time that Rangers kicked on again and who better to be at the helm than Stuart.

It’s funny though because when I was playing for Bradford years ago and I’d talk about Scottish football, the likes of Mark Ellis, Stuart and Abbo would start singing the Loony Tunes theme.

Well who’s the loony now ... only joking, Rangers fans!
