A BRADFORD City fan has been bailed by police after allegedly making a racist remark to a Reading player during the FA Cup exit.

Reading goalscorer Garath McCleary complained he was racially abused when he went to collect the ball for a Reading corner in front of the City fans at last night's Cup quarter final.

The Jamaican international made a complaint to the assistant referee and officials reported the matter to the Reading club, who referred it to police.

Today a spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "A 36-year-old Bradford man was arrested on suspicion of indecent/racial chanting at a designated football match, which comes under the Football Offences Act 1991, and he has been bailed to April 16 pending further inquiries."

Bradford City co-chairman Mark Lawn warned the man faced being barred for life from Valley Parade if he was found guilty of the offence.

"I understand the police are prosecuting so we can't do anything at this stage, but if that person is found guilty we will take action," Mr Lawn said.

"There is no place for that in the game, it is unacceptable.

"I would think we're looking at a lifetime ban if he's found guilty but that decision can only be made after consultation with the club's board."
