WALSALL striker Jordy Hiwula is confident they can handle the Valley Parade pitch tomorrow.

The Saddlers boast League One’s tightest defence on their travels and have conceded only 12 away goals – one fewer than City.

They could be boosted by the return of leading scorer Tom Bradshaw after three games out with a hamstring strain. He has netted 15 times so far.

Winger Anthony Forde and defender James Chambers have also been back in training this week and could increase boss Dean Smith’s options.

Hiwula has scored twice in three games since joining on a month’s loan from Manchester City.

And the young frontman insists Walsall will not be put off by the much-criticised City playing surface.

He said: “I have seen Bradford’s pitch and it is bad. But we just need to adapt and carry on playing the way we are.

“I think we are good enough, there is not a team in this league we fear.

“We go into every game thinking we are going to win. We need to keep on going, we had a little blip on Saturday losing 1-0 (to Port Vale).

“We have loads of good players and I think we can outplay these teams. We just need to keep on going.”

Smith’s policy of focusing on a patient, passing approach and leaning heavily on youngsters has been rewarded with Walsall’s first appearance at Wembley in next month’s JPT final against Bristol City.

But without a targetman, some fans have questioned the lack of a “plan B” when things aren’t working.

Defender Ben Purkiss said the team will stay true to their principles.

“Throughout the season there has been a belief in what we are doing and there has never been any panic.

“There might be external pressures but from inside the dressing room we have always believed in ourselves and believed in each other.

“We are an organised team and prepare for every game and we have good players. We have kept believing in that and stuck to the plan.

“At the moment, while I would not say it is reaping its rewards, we are on the right track.”
