MARK Yeates may be in his best form as a City player but admits he has to do more before he satisfies his biggest critic – himself.

The Irishman has delivered a string of top-notch displays this season to draw a line under a difficult first year with the club.

Yeates has been a key figure in City's current revival and scored his third goal of the campaign in last week's FA Cup stroll against Dartford.

But the midfield maestro believes his tally could be much higher.

He said: "I'm beating myself up because I should have more goals this season. I've hit crossbars and posts and made a few this year.

"It's nice to get on the score sheet again as it always gives you a little buzz inside. But I need to be scoring more and hopefully those goals will come now."

City shared last Sunday's goals among all the front players, with Jon Stead, Billy Clarke and Filipe Morais also hitting the target.

Yeates insisted they are making a conscious effort to create – and score – more.

He said: "We've all been told by the gaffer to be as positive as possible. You've seen in the last four or five games that we've been creating a lot of chances and scattering the goals about.

"I include Andy Halliday in that as well after Fil did his shoulder. We're all trying to be more attacking and it's nice to see.

"Myself, Steady and Clarkey have a good understanding in training and we take that into games. Clarkey and I have played together before, so we know how to link up and it's working well at the moment.

"We're playing good football and that's five unbeaten now, so we can go into the Chesterfield game full of confidence.

"I feel this group's only going to get better and that's a positive in itself."

Stead has made a significant impact since returning to Valley Parade two months ago. The Huddersfield hitman, who has netted four times, is back until January 3 when his loan is due to run out.

City would love to keep him for longer – a view endorsed by Yeates, who sees the experienced frontman as a big presence around the dressing room.

Yeates said: "Steady's a great lad, he's an honest player and a top pro. You can tell he's played Championship (level) his whole career because of his quality.

"But it's not just about his performances on the pitch for us; off it he makes a difference as well.

"He's doing the business not just with his goals but everything else he brings. He's been a massive addition to the group."

City have not lost since November 1 and Yeates is convinced they can extend that run at the Proact Stadium tomorrow.

He said: "I know Chesterfield are a good side and have players in form. Eoin Doyle has been scoring a lot of goals up front.

"But the group here are really confident and we don't fear anyone. We've been to Bristol City and Preston and got results, so there's no reason why we can't go to Chesterfield and win.

"People were watching us last week to see if it could be an upset. But we set our stall out from the first whistle and it was pretty convincing.

"It was a really good performance from the lads and we want to take that forward into our next game."
