CHESTERFIELD hope to follow City's lead when they head for Wembley on Monday morning.

Tomorrow's hosts have a date with the Football Association to plead their case to stay in the FA Cup.

The Spireites have been charged with fielding an ineligible player after on-loan centre half Georg Margreitter played in last weekend's impressive win at MK Dons.

The Austrian's parent club had agreed verbally for him to play but no written permission was sent to the Football Association.

Chesterfield have a precedent with their appeal – the Bantams in 2012, when they were kicked out for playing Curtis Good against Brentford when he had not been registered in time.

City argued their case and got the ruling overturned – with a £1,000 fine – but lost the replay at Griffin Park in extra time.

Chesterfield, who will travel to either Scunthorpe or Worcester in round three if they are allowed to stay in the FA Cup, have a decision to make over Margreitter this weekend. His loan is up after the City clash.

Boss Paul Cook may be tempted to stick with the same side that triumphed at stadium:mk. If he does decide to change, the experienced Ian Evatt is ready to return after his recent injury.

Sam Hird is another option at the back – both were on the bench last weekend.

Cook switched to two up front for that game and put Armand Gnanduillet alongside league top scorer Eoin Doyle.

The Irishman has tended to play on his own but Ivorian Gnanduillet scored the winner and so is likely to be rewarded with another start.

Chesterfield, like the Bantams, go into the game in good form and are unbeaten in six games. Keighley-born stopper Tommy Lee has let in only two goals in that time.

Doyle is the one to watch with 19 goals so far and is attracting a posse of scouts ahead of next month's transfer window.

Reading and Bristol City are believed to be leading the chase but Chesterfield will not let him go on the cheap. The striker still has another 18 months on his contract and would command a £1million-plus price tag.
