WHEN Dartford moved to their new Princes Park stadium in 2006, the aim was to achieve promotion to the Conference within ten years.

They did it within six and now stand just one division away from the Football League.

Tony Burman’s squad are part-time but the manager, who served the club with such distinction as a player, has been full-time for the past two years.

He fulfils a number of roles at the club and his primary objective this season is survival as the Darts currently lie in the Conference relegation zone.

Burman said: “We know we’re in a league which is tough and that things aren’t always going to go our way.

“We’re not up there with the big boys but we’re pleased that we’re in the best non-league division. That’s a great honour and achievement for a club of our size.”

The 56-year-old Burman, a prolific striker during his playing days with the Kent club, has several notable names in his squad such as former Millwall midfielder Sweeney and goalkeeper Jason Brown.

“I’ve been through the mill with our fantastic supporters who have brought the club back to life,” added Burman.

“I’ve basically been there and done everything with the club, but the next challenge would be to stay in our league and build for the future again. Getting into the Football League is possible because there is only one division below it.”
