THERE is no worse feeling than getting knocked out of the cup by a non-league club.

I still remember playing for Southampton when we went to Bristol Rovers and got turned over. Ricky Lambert was up front for them and was absolutely brilliant that day.

We couldn’t handle him and they ended up beating us 1-0. They deserved it as well because we never turned up as a team.

That is the key thing when you’re up against clubs from lower leagues. Your attitude has to be absolutely spot on or they will punish you.

I think it’s a great draw to be playing Halifax. Games like this one are what the FA Cup is all about.

It’s a local derby as well and you know the atmosphere is going to be fantastic. We’ll have a lot of supporters over there and they will make plenty of noise as they always do.

But we’ve got to make sure we are ready for a battle because Halifax will be really revved up for it.

They are going really well in the Conference and will be confident going into the game.

It’s a potential banana skin for us and we can’t afford to slip up. We have to want it just as much as they do.

You look at the quality in our squad and the fact that we are a couple of leagues above them. But it doesn’t matter how many good players you have, if you aren’t up for it you’re going to get a good hiding.

We’ve had a difficult run of late but this is a good opportunity to stop that and get back to winning ways. There would be nothing better than winning a local derby on TV and getting through to the next round.

A win on Sunday would also be the perfect way for me to sign off with my column.

I’ve really enjoyed doing this for the Telegraph & Argus for the last year since taking over from Ricky Ravenhill.

It’s been good fun to get my views across to the fans and I hope you’ve enjoyed reading them just as much. Keep the faith and I’m sure our fortunes will pick up again.
