DELIGHTED boss Phil Parkinson felt City went “back to basics” to claim their first league win at Valley Parade since the opening day.

Aaron Mclean and Gary Liddle scored in the second half as the Bantams beat basement dwellers Crewe 2-0 this afternoon  to move into seventh.

Parkinson said: “It’s been a long time coming to win at home but we deserved it. We had numerous chances in the first half but just couldn’t get that goal.

“The lads were excellent, they kept calm and kept playing and wore Crewe down in the end.

“Once we got that first goal, you felt another would be coming and Lidds’ strike killed the game off.”

City had gone four games without a win in front of their own fans. Crewe, who have lost four on the trot, held out for 72 minutes before the home pressure paid off.

Parkinson added: “These games are never easy. With Crewe’s recent results, everyone expected us to win despite our recent (home) form.

“But I thought the lads handled it really well. It was a good performance across the 90 minutes.

"It was a back to basics performance today, everyone working hard for the team. There were no passengers out there.”
