OPTIMISTIC Andrew Davies is eyeing a possible return to action for City by the end of the month after declaring: “My arm feels brand new.”

The centre half will have another scan today to check the progress after an operation on his broken left arm a fortnight ago.

The initial diagnosis suggested that Davies, such a crucial figure in the back four, would be missing for up to six weeks.

But Davies, who tends to be a quick healer, is hopeful of getting back into contention a bit sooner than that.

He said: “The scan is just to make sure that everything is healing fine. But it feels brand new.

“It’s frustrating for me because the arm is fixed. I can move it without a problem and I can run.

“The question is when I can give it the chance to take a hit. How strong will it be in full contact?

“But being brutally honest, I can’t see it being too much longer.”

Davies suffered the injury after colliding with keeper Jordan Pickford during the Peterborough game at Valley Parade. He has missed four matches so far – and his absence was felt on Saturday as Yeovil centre half Aaron Martin scored twice from set-pieces.

He added: “I feel that I could probably play with what I’ve got on the arm now – unless there’s a bang on it.

“But the surgeon is going to show me the cast I’ll be playing in. Things like that give you confidence knowing that it’s going to be fine.

“The worst case scenario for me was six weeks from the time of the operation for the bone to fully heal. That would mean another four weeks until I can play again.

“By then the bone will be fully healed, there’s a plate in it and I’ll be wearing a protective casing.

“I’m not going to wait any longer than that – if anything, I think it will be earlier. I could be playing again possibly by the end of this month which would be great.”
