JASON Kennedy wants to go bonkers at Valley Parade.

The midfielder has been one of the leading lights in City’s strong start to the season.

He has played every minute of the eight games so far – already beating the total amount of time he spent on the pitch in his first abortive year with the club.

Kennedy’s bright start included a goal in last week’s win at Rochdale. But his personal celebrations were kept in check out of respect of his former employers.

That’s why he cannot wait to score for the first time on home soil.

Kennedy said: “I’ve not opened my account at Valley Parade but hopefully that day will come soon and then I can lay it all out.

“Obviously your immediate reaction in your head after you score is to go wild.

“It was hard not to do that last week, especially with the noise that our fans make. That just makes you want to join in.

“But I felt it was best not to do a big celebration just out of respect for everyone associated with Rochdale. I had four great years there.

“It was nice to get a lot of messages on social media afterwards from their fans saying how pleased they were that I’d done that.

“But now I’m hoping to get more goals so I can celebrate a lot more than I did.

“I don’t know what I’ll do if I can score at home. I haven’t got anything planned but I’ll obviously get a lot more excited.”

Kennedy’s strike at Spotland made up for the miss in front of the Kop against Leeds – a squandered opportunity that was rectified by the spectacular late show from his team-mates.

He added: “I was disappointed when I didn’t take that chance so it was a big relief to see us come back like that.

“We went on to show great character to get the result.

“But I know that if I can keep getting in the box, then those type of opportunities will come round again.

“If (James) Hanson’s not scoring, then he’s knocking the ball down. Defenders are naturally attracted to Hans so it creates openings for people like me in there.

“We’ve got a bit more freedom with the way we play in midfield and the understanding we’ve got.

“If Billy (Knott) and Lidds (Gary Liddle) see I’m going into the box, they’ll sit in for me and vice versa. It gives us the opportunity to go looking for goals and that helps the team.”

After the Yeovil game this afternoon, City have their first free midweek since the new campaign kicked off. But Kennedy has mixed feelings about the bonus break.

“It will give us a little breather to refresh but I’ve enjoyed the games coming thick and fast because we’ve been doing so well as a team.

“In the first month I’ve passed my total amount of games I started for Bradford last year and I’m loving every minute.”
