If City are after inspiration for tomorrow’s trip to Rotherham, they could do worse than looking up ‘Robbie’s rocket’ on Youtube.
The Robbie in question is Robbie James, the Welsh midfielder who tragically died aged 40 of a heart muscle disease in 1998 while playing for Llanelli.
James, capped almost 50 times by his country, was synonymous with local club Swansea and their rise up the divisions.
But his two-year spell at Valley Parade is covered in detail in the biography ‘Robbie James: A Life in Football’.
James is best remembered by City fans for a thunderous strike he scored at Millmoor – which was regarded as the club’s best of the season.
“A blockbuster of a goal,” was manager John Docherty’s description. “It certainly got me out of my seat.”
The book chronicles James’ career in minute detail – highlighting that he shared a passion with Lee Duxbury for beans on toast before games – and there are several contributions in the City chapter from the claretandbanter website.
